In my last blog post, I wrote about the importance of making decisions and avoiding the wasteland of indecision. After discussing the post with a few people, I realized that we often get stuck trying to orchestrate the perfect future outcome while we are in the present. So, I thought to write a few words about the most crucial thing we need to know and focus on at this time.
That’s the answer to the question, “What should be your next step?”
My explanation will be based on how your vision and mission interact. In order for you to succeed in the long term, it is always necessary to be clear on your vision and the reasons behind it. When you are clear about your overall objective, you can recognize the endgame.
Step 2 is to determine your mission for a specific time frame, such as a month, quarter, or year.
The final step, which is when the magic happens, is defining your next action and taking it! The temptation will always be there to say, “I will define a series of actions, not just the next,” and this is fine if you can.
However, the focus should be on the next action, which is usually easier to take and don’t let the desire to know a series of steps hold you back.
In summary, define the overall vision, state your mission for the next period and most importantly, ensure that you know the next action and take it.
